Down by the Bay

I love love loved photographing this family on the beach in North Vancouver a while ago.  It’s a little trickier to get awesome portraits of extended families when small kids are involved  - you are still running on the kids’ timeline (i.e. how long will they be happy running around in the chilly wind!) and there are more combinations to capture.  That being said, I’m so happy with what we ended up with – these kids are absolutely adorable, so I really could do no wrong.  :)

Here are a few of my favourites:

Happy Friday everyone!

Hayley Rae - Love love love! Especially the black and white one of the two kids! :)

Let’s Go Outside

Adam and I used to go on ‘scouting dates’ all the time – I would need to check out a location prior to a shoot or wedding, so we’d head there together and do a bit of hiking.  I love shooting in naturally beautiful locations, so the areas I need to scout are usually also great spots for hiking/picnic dates! Well, life got busy and the weather has been crappy, so we haven’t done this in a while. Last week we made plans to check out three parks I’ve been wanting to go to in North/West Vancouver – two of which I’ve shot at before, loved, and wanted to show Adam, and another I needed to check out for a wedding this summer.

It ended up being super grey and wet the day we had planned to go, but we decided to tough it out and go anyway – neither of us is bothered by a little rain, and we hadn’t gotten fresh air in so long! I packed up some sandwiches and iced tea, and we headed to Lighthouse Park, Whytecliff Park, and Ambleside Park.

The next morning we woke up SO sore – we have a terrible habit of walking way farther than originally intended.icon smile child family photographer vancouverBut it was very worth it – there are few things better than quality time hiking & picnicking in the rain.

Meghan Baxter - *Yum* I meant. :)

Meghan Baxter - I love lighthouse park – I took Wayne on a fancy picnic date there once, complete with an Italian basket of cheeses and meats. Yu. I have also heard great things about Ambleside.

Erin - Lovely photos! Only you can make pictures on your iPhone that should be classified as Art.

I love those parks. What beautiful treasures are hidden in greater Vancouver! :)

Jen - I LOVE how you guys are so adventurous. It’s so romantic. Jordan and I aren’t as fun – a little rain would really bother us lol. We’re missing out. :( Such a beautiful location!!

Elaine - I *love* lighthouse park. Did fashion portraits there once, but would love to shoot a couple there <3

Tova - Can’t believe those photos were taken on an iphone. They’re so beautiful.

Michaela & Scott | Winter Engagement Portraits

I met Michaela & Scott in White Rock a couple of weeks ago to capture their engagement portraits. We had already postponed the session once – due to generally grey & miserable weather – so I was so happy to get the perfect mix of cloud and blue skies.

Even though it’s my job to make sure my couples are comfortable in front of my camera, it is so awesome when I get clients that don’t really need much coaxing. Michaela & Scott were so easy – super comfortable, constantly making eachother laugh, and completely willing to run around and do whatever silly things I asked them to do.icon biggrin child family photographer vancouverIt was such a nice shoot, and I drove away completely happy with what we captured. Behind the Scenes

As I was going through Rachel & Jeremy’s wedding images, I noticed that my second shooter Elaine took a few with me in them!  :)  I thought it might be neat to share a few behind the scenes with the resulting images.  A big thank you to Elaine for these!

Rachel & Jeremy are exiting the church to lots of clapping and bubbles – if you look closely you can see me (in black) on their right, and their videographer to their left.  Usually when the couple is exiting down the aisle, I’ll begin about halfway down and walk backwards toward the exit, photographing as I go:

And that’s it!

Happy Tuesday everyone!
